Courage and strength

Philippians 4:13

"I can do all things through him who gives me strength."Philippians 4:13, NIV

Reflection

Paul wrote this from prison, on the heels of saying he had learned to be content in plenty and in want. The 'all things' is not 'I can win every game' — it's 'I can be steady through whatever comes.' This verse has been turned into a sports slogan, but its actual context is suffering. The strength isn't for performance; it's for endurance. Read the verse before it: I can do all things — meaning I can stay faithful through hunger, abundance, prison, freedom, ease, hardship — through him who strengthens me. That's the promise.

Prayer

Christ, give me the strength to be steady today. Not to win — to stay.
