Perseverance through trial

Isaiah 40:31

"But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."Isaiah 40:31, NIV

Reflection

The progression in this verse is backward from what you'd expect. Soaring, running, walking — most of us would rank walking as the easiest. But anyone who's been through a long season knows: soaring happens occasionally, running comes in bursts, walking is what you do every day for years. The miracle isn't the wings; it's the walking. Hoping in the Lord is what makes the walking possible when there's nothing dramatic to carry you through. Today might be a walking day. That's the harder miracle.

Prayer

God, I'd prefer wings today. But if it's a walking day, give me the strength to walk and not be faint.
