The love of God

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."1 Corinthians 13:4-7, NIV

Reflection

Most often read at weddings — but written to a church Paul was rebuking. He's not painting a romantic picture; he's setting a standard for how the body of Christ treats each other. Try replacing 'love' in this passage with your own name. 'Adam is patient, Adam is kind.' That's the test. The closer the description gets to true, the more love you're walking in. The further it is, the more there is to grow into. Read it slowly. Notice which clauses feel uncomfortable. Those are the ones to pray about.

Prayer

Father, where I am the opposite of this love today, change me. One clause at a time.
