Salvation and grace
John 3:16
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."— John 3:16, NIV
Reflection
This is the verse that gets shouted in stadiums and printed on banners, which is part of why most of us have stopped hearing it. Read it again, slowly. The shape of the gospel is here in twenty-six words: God's posture (love), God's action (gave), God's invitation (whoever), God's promise (eternal life). Notice it doesn't say 'whoever earns it' or 'whoever cleans up first.' It says whoever. That's the door. If you've been carrying the weight of feeling like you have to qualify before you can come — this is the verse that says you don't.
Prayer
Father, thank you for loving the world this specifically — not in the abstract, but in the giving of your Son. Help me believe that 'whoever' includes me. Today.
