Peace that surpasses

Psalm 91:1-2

"Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, 'He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.'"Psalm 91:1-2, NIV

Reflection

Dwelling and rest are different from visiting and recovering. Dwelling is where you live — your default address. The psalm doesn't promise that the shelter will be needed only sometimes. It promises that those who dwell there will rest in the shadow always. The shelter is portable; it's not a building you go to. It's a relationship you live in. The first verse is descriptive. The second verse is what dwelling sounds like out loud: a daily declaration that God is the refuge, before the storm comes.

Prayer

Lord, you are my refuge and my fortress. Today, I take shelter in you — not as a last resort, but as my address.
