Comfort in hard seasons
Psalm 34:18
"The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."— Psalm 34:18, NIV
Reflection
Read this slowly. The LORD is close — not distant, not waiting for you to fix yourself first — close. To the brokenhearted. Not to the put-together. The proximity is the comfort. He doesn't wait for you to recover before he draws near; the brokenness is what he draws near to. If you are crushed in spirit right now, this verse isn't asking you to be less crushed. It's promising that the closeness is a fact of where you are. Sit in that for a minute. Don't try to feel anything yet. Just notice that you're not alone.
Prayer
God, I'm brokenhearted. I'm crushed. I'm trusting that you are close. Be close enough that I can feel it today.
