Hope and the future
Lamentations 3:22-23
"Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."— Lamentations 3:22-23, NIV
Reflection
This verse comes out of the book Lamentations, written from the rubble of a destroyed city. The author has every reason to despair. And in the middle of the lament, this: 'his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.' New every morning means yesterday's mercy doesn't have to stretch to cover today; today gets its own. If you're carrying yesterday's sin or yesterday's failure into today, this verse says: drop it. New mercies came overnight. Pick those up instead.
Prayer
Father, thank you for new mercy this morning. Help me receive it instead of dragging yesterday into today.
